About Us

At Fenja BioSolutions, our approach to innovation is unique: rather than building an in-house team of food scientists and biochemists, we’ve chosen to partner with the best minds across academia and industry. This model allows us to remain agile and access a wide spectrum of expertise, from cutting-edge microbiology to advanced process engineering, ensuring our solutions are informed by the latest research and best practices.

Our network includes collaborations with leading universities, research institutions, and industry experts who specialize in fields essential to our work, from fermentation science to nutritional biochemistry. By working closely with these partners, we gain access to diverse perspectives and groundbreaking insights, all without the overhead of maintaining an internal R&D staff. This collaborative framework allows us to focus resources on what matters most: translating scientific knowledge into scalable, high-impact applications for food and feed.

Our advisory groups bring together highly respected scientists and industry veterans guiding our strategy and process development. They provide expert oversight, helping us make informed decisions grounded in scientific rigor and industrial relevance. This advisory-driven model ensures that our technology remains cutting-edge and that our products are designed to meet the most demanding standards for quality, efficiency, and sustainability.

In short, our commitment to collaboration and external expertise is not a limitation but a strategic choice that strengthens our foundation. By connecting with top specialists in mycology, bioengineering, and the wider bioeconomy, we are building a resilient, dynamic pathway to innovation that positions Fenja BioSolutions as a leader in sustainable protein production for the Nordics.

How We Work

Our approach to innovation begins with a clear, data-driven business model , designed to support profitable scaling. Every aspect of our process, from substrate development and optimisation to product refinement, is backed by robust scientific methodology and extensive market analysis. By focusing on the yield, composition, and potential applications of our microbial biomass, we ensure each step contributes to sustainable profitability.

Fenja’s process integrates continuous feedback from pilot trials and real-world applications, allowing us to optimize at each phase. We will utilize close collaboration with research institutions and industrial partners, refining our techniques and aligning them with industry standards. As we move from lab-scale trials to industrial-scale operations through own - build and operate plants, our work is characterized by transparency, data integrity, and a strong commitment to creating scalable solutions for the food and feed industries.

Scaling the Industry in the Nordics

Scaling mycelium-based protein production in the Nordic region means  using by-products to produce  premium ingredients that meet the demands of tomorrow’s protein market. Fenja BioSolutions is paving the way by building a production network designed to be resource-efficient, regionally sourced, and aligned with Nordic industry goals for sustainability and bioeconomy growth.

With limited infrastructure currently available for large-scale fermentation, Fenja will partner with leading industrial and governmental bodies to create scalable production models tailored to Nordic conditions. We focus on robust, resilient supply chains that benefit local economies and reduce dependency on global imports, pushing the boundaries of bio-innovation in the region.

What We Will Achieve

Fenja BioSolutions is committed to establishing a viable, scalable source of mycelium-based protein, with the ultimate aim of providing the Nordic food and feed industries with a sustainable, high-quality alternative to conventional proteins. Within the next five years, our goal is to move from pilot-scale validation to full-scale production, demonstrating the feasibility and profitability of mycelium protein in commercial applications.

Through focused R&D efforts, we will prove the economic and nutritional value of mycelium proteins as a cornerstone for sustainable food production. By building a robust business case and securing strategic partnerships, we aim to catalyse the Nordic bioeconomy, setting new standards for circularity, efficiency, and sustainability in protein production.
